Beastformer and Laserbeast Gallery

One very unique aspect of Beastformer collecting that was not found in Transformers as a whole were the rare cards. A total of six special cards were released through various avenues, most of them random packed in Beastformers boxes. It is unknown what the odds of pulling the rare cards were, but my uninformed guess based on the frequency I have seen them would be something like 1/50. Three of the six cards were some variation on the Platinum Tiger holographic card.

The first holographic card, randomly packed in with figures, featured the image of Platinum Tiger (Saber-tooth Tiger), with the story that he had been imprisoned in a mirror (Not pictured here) The second such card added an image of Green Chameles (Delta Chameleon) that would replace the tiger when tilted, the chameleon said to be an assassin sent to dispatch Platinum Tiger. The final version had the same image as the second, but was printed on a telephone card with the Beastformers logo in the corner. This was probably the most difficult rare card to obtain, as it was a random insert in the Perfect Six Set, a limited giftset itself.

Among the other three cards, the Crystal Killer Fish bio card was included in all the Perfect Six Sets, the only of the cards in this gallery not to be a random item. The card is done up in the style of the later series RPG cards, and in place of a serial number is the word "limited edition." The remaining two are heat-sensitive cards using the same technology as the rubsigns: for the White Leo Secret Photo, applying heat to the card reveals the x-ray schematics of his armor, while rubbing White Leo's image on the Stone Cobrander card "unseals" the cobra, who had been imprisoned in Red Phoenix. These two were both rare inserts with normal figures.

As more and more beast collectors fill out the remainder of their collections, fans have begun to show greather interest in items of merchandise such as cards. With greater awareness and demand for the cards more of them have been appearing on the secondary market, but it may only be so long before supply is exhausted and they again fade into obscurity.
